Jennifer James
Advanced/Intermediate Pian
Jennifer James is an Akron raised pianist. Starting lessons at the age of four, she studied classical piano until high school where she developed an interest in jazz. As a junior year high schooler, she joined the University of Akron Jazz Big Band after wanting to play and learn jazz more intensely. She kept her position as the pianist for the band through her senior year. After graduating from high school, she decided to attend the University of Akron, majoring in Jazz Studies. She is currently in her third year in the program.
Outside of taking classes, Jennifer spends much of her time performing for private events with her jazz trio or quartet. She also occasionally performs original compositions by her fellow students at the University of Akron and accompanies vocalists or instrumentalists when needed.
Jennifer's goals as a teacher are to enrich a student's life through music and helping them express themselves through it. She believes in assessing the student's goals and working from there to ensure the student achieves exactly what they want to attain while enjoying the process, too.
