Meet one of our incredibly talented piano instructors, Alanna! We were lucky enough to sit down and chat with Alanna and see the passion she has for music and teaching, but also get to know more about her!
Question: Why do you think music education is important?
Alanna: I really think I could go on about this. It’s a beautiful way to express hidden emotions and emanate joy! It teaches both patience and discipline. It’s so important! It teaches more than just music, too. Music education can also teach life skills.
Q: What is a piece of advice you like to pass on to your students?
A: Learn how to organize yourself, set goals, and make a practice journal. Having a clear vision is important, and remember – it’s okay to do something hard! Just pace yourself. You’re going to feel good later. It’s fun and work at the same time and that’s what we musicians go through.
Q: Who is your favorite composer and why?
A: Thomas Bergersen. He creates hybrid music that blends different genres together. His music is soft, heavy, and versatile. He doesn’t put genre in a box and therefore doesn’t follow a set of musical “rules.”
Q: What got you interested in your instrument, the piano?
A: When I was young, I thought the piano was so beautiful, and so I got a piano at age 10 and haven’t stopped playing since!
Q: What do you like to do outside of music?
A: I like to take walks, drink coffee, read, and play video games. I also have my cats to play with!
Q: Is there a teacher who made an impact on your life?
A: Yes, a few have. They inspired me to work hard and believe in myself. They helped me see things I’ve never seen before.
Q: What is your dream vacation?
A: Hawaii!
Q: If you could learn any instrument besides your own, what would it be?
A: The violin!
Q: If you were a superhero, what powers would you want to have?
A: The ability to manipulate energy.
